252 THE HASSELBLAD MANUAL
New Lens Designs for Digital Imaging
The Carl Zeiss and HC lenses are designed to produce the utmost image quality in fi lm pho-
tography and are equally excellent high quality lenses for digital imaging. In digital imaging
some of the lens aberrations, such as chromatic aberration and distortion, can be corrected
further in the computer software but to a satisfactory degree only if the lens is optically
designed to produce good corner to corner image quality without the help of the computer.
This topic, Digital Auto Correction (DAC), is further discussed in Chapter 3 in the section
Figure 14-15 Lens designs of H system lenses. (1) The HC 3.5/35 mm retrofocus wide angle with
11 lens elements and rear focusing. (2) The HC 3.5/50 mm retrofocus wide angle with 10
lens elements and rear focusing. (3) The symmetrical design of the 6-element HC 2.8/80 mm
standard lens with full focusing. (4) The 9-element HC 4/120 mm Macro lens with focusing
