46 THE HASSELBLAD MANUAL
To recharge, remove the battery grip from the camera, insert the cable from the charging
unit to the outlet in the battery grip, and connect the charger to a proper power outlet. The
red light will come on indicating that the battery is charging. The red light fl ashes when the
battery is completely charged. The battery in the rechargeable battery grip must be recharged
only with the Hasselblad battery charger BC-H Li-Ion 7.2 V DC, and this charging unit should
not be used for recharging anything else.
Because camera operation is completely dependent on batteries, you should always carry
a backup set such as a second rechargeable 7.2 V battery grip or an accessory reserve lithium
battery grip that holds three CR-123 lithium batteries.
Removing or changing the battery does not erase any functions programmed and saved
into the camera, because the memory in the H camera does not need the power from the
battery to store such data. Unsaved data, however, will be lost. Aperture and shutter speed are
not saved and will revert to the default settings of f/5.6 and

H3DII Battery Operation
The H3DII cameras have a full screen battery status check that can be accessed by depressing
and holding down the Illumination/Battery Check button that is now marked with an illumi-
nated battery symbol. The screen shows the fi rmware version, the number of exposures taken
since the last battery or recharge change, and a battery status icon (Figure 4-2).
Figure 4-2 Battery status. Depressing the Battery Status/Illumination button on H3DII cameras
brings up the fi rmware version, the number of exposures taken since the last battery charge
or change, and the status of the battery in the camera (left). The new cameras also show
Replace Battery instead of Low Battery (right).
The amount of power consumed from the battery depends on the way you operate and
work with the camera. The information in this chapter must therefore be considered only as
an estimation. For example, the percentage fi gure is simply based on the power left in the bat-
tery not taking into account how much power you personally use for each exposure.
H3DII Battery Warning
On the H3DII cameras a battery warning signal on the preview screen of the sensor unit can
be seen in addition to an audible signal heard when the battery charge goes below a certain
level. The signal for the camera battery appears on the top right of the screen as a fl ashing
yellow battery symbol when the battery should be re-charged and changes to red when the
battery power is completely exhausted. When working with the Image Bank, the same battery
