1 Generaldescription
MULTICAL®603isanall‐roundcalculator,suitableasheatmeter,coolingmeterorcombinedheat/coolingmeter
togetherwith1or2flowsensorsand2or3 temperaturesensors.Themeterisintendedforenergymeasurementin
almostalltypesofthermalinstallationswherewaterisusedastheenergy
‐conveyingmedium.
MULTICAL® 603 can, in addition to heat and cooling measurement, be used for leakage monitoring, permanent
performancemonitoring,aspowerandflowlimiterwithvalvecontrolaswellasforenergymeasurementinbothopen
andclosedsystems.
AccordingtoEN1434andMID,MULTICAL®603canbe
designatedasa“calculator”withseparatetypeapprovaland
verification,anditcanbedeliveredeitherasaseparatecalculatororasacompletemeter,withmountedtemperature
sensorsandflowsensorsaccordingtocustomerrequirements.
The MULTICAL® 603 calculator top can be separated from the connection base without using tools
when the
installationsealsarebroken.Thisprovidesfreeaccesstotheinstallationoftheflowsensor,temperaturesensors,
powersupply/batteryandcommunicationmodules.
Thecalculatortopisfactory‐sealedandmayonly beopenedbyauthorisedmeterlaboratories.Ifthefactorysealis
broken,thefactoryguaranteenolonger
applies.
MULTICAL®603has2flowsensorinputsthatcanbeusedforbothelectronicandmechanicalflowsensors.Thepulse
figurecabbeprogrammedfrom0.001to300pulses/liter,andthecalculatorcanbeprogrammed toallnominalflow
sensorsizesfrom0.6to15,000m

/h.Thecalculatorcanbedeliveredwithbothgalvanicallyconnectedandseparated
flowsensorinputs.
The temperaturemeasurements in inlet andoutlet areperformed withaccurately paired Pt500or Pt100 sensor
accordingtoEN60751andEN1434.MULTICAL®603normallycomeswithaPt500sensorpair,e.g.shortdirect
sensors
accordingtoEN1434‐2orø5.8mmpocketsensors,whichfitKamstrupsensorpocketsinstainlesssteel.MULTICAL®
603canalsobedeliveredwith4‐wiretemperaturesensorinputsthatareespeciallysuitableforinstallationswithlong
temperaturesensorcables.
Accumulatedheatenergyand/orcoolingenergycanbe
displayedinkWh,MWh,GJorGcal,allwithsevenoreight
significantdigitsplusmeasuringunit.Thedisplayhasbeenspeciallydesignedwithaviewtoobtaininglonglifetime
andsharpcontrastinawidetemperaturerange.Furthermore,MULTICAL®603canbedeliveredinavariantwith
backlitdisplay(type
603‐F).
Otherreadingoptionsare:accumulatedwaterconsumption,operatinghourcounter,errorhourcounter,current
temperaturemeasurements,currentflowandpowerreadings.Furthermore,MULTICAL®603canbeconfiguredto
displaymonthlyandyearlyloggings,targetdatedata,max/min.flow,max/min.power,informationcode,currentdate
aswellasuser‐
definedtariffing.
MULTICAL®603ispoweredbyaninternalD‐celllithiumbatterywithalifespanupto16yearsora2xAlithiumpacket
withalifespanofupto9years.Alternatively,themetercanbemainssupplied,eitherby24VACor230VAC.
Inadditiontothe
energymeter’sowndata,MULTICAL®603candisplaytheaccumulatedconsumptionsoftwoextra
watermeters,e.g. coldand hotwatermeters, whichsupply apulsesignalto MULTICAL®603 viareed‐switch or
electronicoutput.Thecontactsignalsfromtheextrawatermetersareconnectedviathecommunicationmodules.
Amultipleplugplacedbehindthesealisusedinconnectionwithcalibrationandadjustmentduringverificationaswell
asinconnectionwithcommunicationmodules.MULTICAL®603isavailablewith1or2communicationmodulesfor
WirelessM‐Bus,M‐BusandRS232.Themodulesareavailablewitheitherpulseinputs
orpulseoutputs.Furthermore,
themetercanbedeliveredwithintegratedM‐Bus,independentofthemodules.
Indesign ingMULTICAL®603,greatimportancehasbeenattachedtoflexibilitythroughprogrammablefunctionsand
plug‐inmodules(see paragraphs3.2and11) inordertosecureoptimumusein awide range
ofapplications.In
addition, the construction makes it possible to update previously installed MULTICAL® 603 via the PC‐program
METERTOOLHCW.
