14.11Checking rear sprocket / engine sprocket for wear

Check the rear sprocket / engine sprocket for wear.
» If the rear sprocket / engine sprocket are worn:
Change the rear sprocket / engine sprocket, chain and chain sliding guard.

The rear sprocket, engine sprocket, chain and chain sliding guard
should always be changed together.
14.12Checking chain wear

Engage neutral gear.
Pull the lower chain section with specified weight .
Guideline
Weight, chain wear measurement 15 kg (33 lb.)
Measure distance of 18 chain links in the lower chain section.
Info
Chain wear is not always even, so you should repeat this measurement at
different chain positions.
Maximum distance at the longest
chain section
272 mm (10.71 in)
» If the distance is greater than the specified measurement:
Change the rear sprocket / engine sprocket, chain and chain sliding guard.

New chains wear out faster on old, worn sprockets.
For safety reasons, the chain has no chain joint. Always have the
chain changed in an authorized KTM-RC8 workshop, where they
have the necessary special tools.
14.13Checking chain sliding guard

Check the chain sliding guard for wear at the opening.
» If the rivets of the chain are no longer visible at the lower edge of the
opening of the chain sliding guard:
Change the chain sliding guard.
14.14Checking rear hub shock absorbers
Info
The engine power is transmitted by the rear sprocket to the rear wheel through 5 shock absorbers. They are subject to wear
during operation. If the shock absorbers are not changed in time, the rear sprocket carrier and the rear hub are damaged.
Remove the rear wheel. ( p. 41)
