Use o new gosket ond
apply
jointing compound to both foces of the gosket.
Tighten setscrews
and nuts to the specified torque loading (see TECHNICAL
DATA).

Refill the engine with the recommended oil.
CONNECTING ROD (BIG

END) BEARINGS
To Remove
1.
Remove the sump.
2.
Commencing with No.
1
(from radiator end) connecting rod, turn the cronk-
shaft to facilitate removol of cop. Mark cop and rod.

3.
Release the bolts by two or three turns ond top them to release the cap.
Fully release the bolts and remove the cop.
4.
Remove the upper ond lower big
-
end bearing shells from both the connecting
rod ond the connecting rod cop.
To Replace
1.
Replace the upper and lower big
-
end bearing shells by new parts in their
appropriate locations.
2.
Fit the cap to the connecting rod and tighten the bolts to the torque looding
given in TECHNICAL DATA.

Replace the remaining big

end bearings by repeating the above pmcess.

Replace the sump.

The engine and transmission unit should be removed from the vehicle as an ossembly
and the engine separated from the transmission t~nit on the bench or stand.
To Remove
1.
Remove the tailgate.
2.
Drain the cooling system.
3.
Drain the oil from the georbox.
4.
Disconnect the battery.
5.
In the engine compartment, disconnect the following.
