CRANKSHAFT
To Remove

~emove the engine/tronsmission unit assembly from the vehicle, separote the
engine from the transmission unit
and mount the engine
on
a

Remove the sump.

Remove the front cover.
Remove the rear oil seal housing.

Unscrew the connecting rod bearing cop bolts by two or three turns, and

tap
them to release the caps. Push the pistons up into the cylinder liners.

Remove the auxiliary housing. With the aid of Special Tool
(83A)
remove
the union screw securing the oil pick
-
up pipe in the cylinder block.
7.
Remove the ten nuts and woshers to the outside of the sump mounting face,
followed by the ten
large nuts and woshers adjacent to the main ioumalr;

nuts should be released in sequence working
diagonally
inwards from the
outside. Remove the oil
pick-up pipe ond breother pipe from their locations
in the main bearing housing and
cylinder block. Lift off the moin bearing
housing.
If
the housin
g
is tight, it
is
permissible to top lightly with a rubber
mallet to eose removol. Remove
the sproy shield from the rear of the
cylinder block.
