Chapter 2 - Blade Installation and Startup
Chapter 2 2 - 101
2.9.9
Remote System Upgrade
With PC Programming, the UX5000 can be remotely upgraded to a newer version of main software. When a
new version of software is released, a firmware package file is provided. Using the PCPro application, a
technician can remotely upgrade the firmware on the CCPU. The upgrade can be applied immediately or at a
scheduled date and time. This feature saves times and effort in comparison to performing the task manually.
Remote Upgrade is supported only via a LAN connection. A modem or serial connection is NOT supported for
Remote Upgrades.
Schedule when the Firmware Update will occur. The changes of the Firmware Update will only occur after the
UX5000 is reset. Thus the Firmware Update should be executed at a suitable time when the UX5000 is not
actively in use.
The time you specify should be relative to the time on the main UX5000, not the local time of the PC.
2.9.9.1 Conditions
● Requires PCPro version 2.51+ and UX5000 version 2.63+.
● Feature Activation: The Firmware Update feature must be registered through the Feature
Activation process.
● When doing a Firmware Upgrade, the UX5000 can become sluggish during the file transfer
portion of the update. You should perform updates after hours, even if the update is scheduled
for a later time. The file transfer happens when the update is set. For example, at 2:00 PM, a
technician schedules an update to happen at 1:00 AM. When the technician clicks start (2:00
PM), it begins transferring the file to the USB thumb drive on the CCPU. At this time, the UX5000
experiences sluggishness until the file transfer is complete. When the time turns to 12:00 AM,
the UX5000 resets and switches to the new firmware.
● The Package file needed is provided by NEC at the time the new version of the main system
software is released.
● A USB thumb drive is required to be connected to the CN5 connector for Remote (System)
Upgrade. During the Firmware Upgrade, the Package file extracts the files to the USB thumb
drive and then updates the data on the CCPU. The UX5000 then resets and boots off the CCPU.
● The USB thumb drive must have two directories manually created in the root: FIRMWARE and
MUSIC. The file names are not case sensitive.
● Booting from the USB thumb drive does not replace the firmware in Flash Memory on the CCPU.
● Up to two versions of firmware are kept on the USB thumb drive. One version is the current
version from which the CCPU used to boot up. The other version is the new version that is used
on the next boot up. If the boot up fails when switching to the new version, the CCPU can revert
back to the old version. (The FIRMWARE directory size may increase slightly as each new
revision is added.)
● The CCPU boots from its Flash Memory if no USB thumb drive is installed.
● The time entered on the Firmware Upgrade screen is relative to the time on the CCPU, not the
PC from which PCPro was launched. The user should take into account time zone differences
when using this feature.
● In a CygniLink environment, in different time zones, the main system’s time is used when using
a future scheduled time for auto update.
● A power outage will change the update from timed to immediate.
