POWER FAILURE TERMINALS
4.16.1 Power Failure (Figure 4-37)
The system allows connection for basic telephone service during a power failure. The power failure
operation occurs during a commercial power failure, and is not affected by blade failure. Power Failure
Transfer is provided by connecting to the COIU blade.
The 4COIU blade provides 2 Power Failure Transfer circuits. The CN3 connector provides connection to 2
analog trunk ports, which are polarity sensitive (tip to tip, ring to ring). The power failure circuits,
however, are not polarity sensitive. A maximum of 25 4COIU blades per system is allowed.

When connecting the RJ61 cables to the COIU blade, note the position of the
Power Failure connector. Do not confuse this connector as the trunk connector.
