ZIP2x2 User’s Manual
3.1.4.3 Cascading (ZIP2x2)
The ZIP2x2 has a very efficient network switch incorporated in it so you can cascade the phones
as shown in figure 3-3.
Connect the LAN port on the phone to the LAN and connect another phone to the PC port. At
the second phone in the chain, connect the LAN port to the first phone in the chain. The first
phone can obtain power from the LAN through the first phone. The ZIP2x2 does not propagate
the power to the PC port. Therefore, a phone connected to one of these ports must obtain its
power from an ac adapter.
Although you can continue to cascade phones in this manner, it is not recommended that you do
so. The network may be difficult to manage and may have poor performance.
Once you have made the connections, you can identify if a phone has connectivity and activity
on any of its circuits as described in section 8.3.2 on page 86.
3.1.4.4 Turning Off the PC Ports (ZIP2x2)
To provide communication only through the LAN port, the VLAN can be used to disable
communications through PC port. The quickest method of disabling these ports is through the
Web Interface Utility.
To disable the PC circuit:
1. Access the Web Interface by entering the IP address of the phone in the address bar of your
web browser.
2. Select Pswd Settings | VLAN to access the VLANs panel.
3. Set VLAN Support to On.
4. Set the following parameters for VLAN A:
• ID = 1
• PC = E
• LAN = U
