4.6.5 Initiating a Thaw Cycle (CX needles only)
CAUTION. Needles without CX functionality do not support i-Thaw or FastThaw. Needle release from
an iceball will only be achievable with passive thaw.
CAUTION. Active thawing produces heat along the distal needle shaft. Use care to avoid thermal
injury to non-targeted tissues.
CAUTION. The needle handle may become warm during active thawing. Pay attention to the needle
handle position. Prolonged contact with warm portions of the needle handle could cause unintended
thermal tissue damage to the patient or clinician.
To initiate a thaw cycle:
NOTE: A thaw cycle can be initiated for a single active channel or for ALL active channels
simultaneously.
1. Press the Thaw button to select the thaw mode (i-Thaw or FastThaw).
NOTE:
• When i-Thaw is operational, selecting FastThaw will change the thaw from i-Thaw to
FastThaw.
• Similarly, when FastThaw is selected, selecting i-Thaw will change the thaw from FastThaw
to i-Thaw.
2. Press the Start button to initiate thawing.
3. Press Stop button to stop the thaw cycle.
CAUTION. Thaw thoroughly and stop all needle operation prior to removing needles to minimize
the risk of tissue injury.
NOTE: If needle sticking is experienced, use a slight, gentle twist of the needle followed by slow
withdrawal.
