5-6 User Manual
NOTE: Selecting ALL will initiate a Freeze phase at the intensity selected for each channel. To
conduct freezing in all active channels at the same intensity, press the Freeze button for the ALL
channel and select the freeze intensity to apply to all active channels. After selecting the freeze
intensity, press the Start button for the ALL channel to initiate freezing on all active channels
simultaneously.
3. Watch the timer to monitor the freeze phase elapsed time. When the desired freeze duration has
elapsed, press the Stop button to enter an idle phase.
4. If thermal sensors are used, monitor the tissue temperature using the Temperature Sensors
section of the Procedure Screen (reference Section 4.6.2).
5. For CX needles, to actively thaw the iceball, press the Thaw button on the channels containing
needles and select the thaw mode (i-Thaw or FastThaw), and then press the Start button to start
the thaw phase. Reference Section 4.6.5 for more information on thawing.
OPTIONAL: To initiate a thaw phase on all needles simultaneously, press the Thaw button on the
channel labeled ALL and then press Start. Pressing any function button on the channel labeled
ALL displays a message asking you to conrm simultaneous operation of all needles.
CAUTION. Active thawing produces heat along the distal needle shaft. Use care to avoid thermal
injury to non-targeted tissues.
CAUTION. The needle handle may become warm during active thawing. Pay attention to the
needle handle position. Prolonged contact with warm portions of the needle handle could cause
unintended thermal tissue damage to the patient or clinician.
6. For CX needles, watch the timer to monitor the thaw phase elapsed time (reference Section
6.2.3 for instructions on performing a timed thaw phase). When the desired thaw duration has
elapsed, press the Stop button to enter an idle phase.
7. For non-CX needles, active thawing is not possible. Allow time for passive thawing.
8. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 until the desired number of freeze-thaw cycles has been completed.
9. OPTIONAL: Press the Channel button and select Program Cycles to program freeze-thaw
cycles for an individual channel. Reference Section 4.6.7.3 for information on programming
freeze-thaw cycles.
NOTE: To program cycles for all active channels, press ALL and then press Program Cycles to
set the programming options for all active channels.
CAUTION. Ensure adequate thawing before attempting to remove needles from the patient.
Discontinue all needle operation prior to needle removal to minimize risk of tissue injury.
10. Remove all needles and MTS from the patient.
11. Unlock the locking bar(s) and remove all needles and MTS from the needle connection panel. Cut
needles and MTS from the tubing.
12. Dispose of used needles and MTS in a biohazard container in accordance with hospital and
safety regulations.
13. When the procedure is complete, press the END CASE button on the Procedure Screen. The
Gas Venting wizard displays and details the shutdown process.
Follow the on-screen prompts:
• Provide conrmation to end the procedure – Press Yes, End Case.
• Request to save a report – Select the appropriate option for saving the information entered on
the Edit Case Information Screen. Reference Section 4.7 for more information on reports.
