IGNITION SYSTEM 7.2
GENERAL
The vehicle uses a breakerless inductive-discharge ignition
system. The system has both a primary and secondary cir-
cuit. The primary circuit consists of the battery, ignition
switch, primary coil winding, computerized ignition timer and
associated wiring. The secondary circuit consists of the sec-
ondary coil, spark plug and associated wiring.
See Figure 7-1.
The computerized ignition system contains five assemblies.
Ignition Module
The ignition module is mounted in the gear case cover. The
module has two functions. First, it computes the spark
advance for proper ignition timing. Second, it opens and
closes the low-voltage circuits between the battery and igni-
tion coil to produce high-voltage discharge to the spark plug.
The ignition module on the P3 Blast also contains an inte-
grated cam position sensor.
Above 6500 rpm, the ignition module will automatically
reduce power to prevent over revving.
