Startingtheengine
WARNING
Equipmentfailurecouldcauseaccidentorin-

Beforeoperatingthemachine,checkforcor-
rectoperationofsteering,brakes,hydraulic
controls,instruments,andsafetyequipment.
Makesurethetransmissioncontrolleverisin
theneutralposition.Makealladjustmentsbe-
foreoperatingthemachine.
Failuretocomplycouldresultindeathorse-
riousinjury.

NOTICE:Runningtheengineatidleforanextendedtime
(6hoursmaximum)isnotrecommended.Afteranex-
tendedidleperiod,operatethemachineunderloadfora
minimumof30minutes.
NOTE:Ifthemachinehasbeenoutofuseforsometime,
seeStartingUpAfterStorageinthischapter.
NOTE:Ifyouneedtostarttheengineusingabooster
battery,seeAuxiliarybatteryconnectionsinChapter7.
1.TurnthemasterdisconnectswitchtotheONposition.
2.Takeupthecorrectpositionintheoperator'sseatwith
theseatbeltcorrectlyfastened.Makesureyoucan
pushthefootpedalscompletelydownwithyourback
againsttheseatcushion.
3.Makecertainthetransmissiondirectioncontrolisin
NEUTRALandtheparkingbrakeisapplied.
4.TurnthekeyswitchtotheONpositionandcheckthe
instrumentindicators.
5.Keepallnon-authorizedpersonnelclearofthearea.
Soundthehorntoalertothersofyourintenttostart
theengine.TurnthekeyswitchtotheSTARTposition
untiltheenginestarts,thenreleasethekey.
NOTICE:Thestarterhasanautomaticcutouttopro-
tectitself.Incoldweatherconditions,extendedcrank-
ingmaybenecessary.
6.Aftertheenginestarts,checktheinstrumentstomake
suretheindicationsarecorrect.Runtheengineatlow
idlewiththetransmissioninneutraluntiltheengine
coolanttemperatureiswarm.
NOTICE:Operatethemachineatreducedloadsuntil
allsystemsreachoperatingtemperature.Thisisvery
importantduringextremelycoldweatheroperationto
protectboththeengineandhydraulicsystems.
Enginespeed
DONOTOPERATEtheengineatidlespeedforlongperi-
ods.Thiscancausealowoperatingtemperature.Alow
operatingtemperaturecancauseacidsanddepositsin
theengineoil.
Runtheengineatlowidleforaminuteatstartupbefore
pickingupspeedandload.
Alwaysbringtheenginetolowidleforafewminutesto
letallpartscoolevenlybeforeshutdown.
NOTICE:Alwaysshuttheenginedownfromthelowest
idletopreventdamagetotheturbocharger.
