Batteries
Cleanthebatteriesandmakesuretheyareatfullcharge.
Incoldconditionsitisimportanttorunthemachinelong
enoughtoreturnthechargelostbystarting.Inmostcold
conditionsthisisabouttenminutes,butinextremecold
itcanbe30minutes.
NOTE:Afullychargedbatteryat-17°C(1.4°F)hasonly
40%ofthenormalstartingpower.At-29°C(-20.2°F)
thebatteryhasonly18%.
Inspectthebatterycablesandterminals.Cleanthetermi-
nalsandapplyelectricalterminalsealerstopreventcor-
rosion.Seeyourdealer.
Ifwaterisaddedtothebatteriesandthetemperatureis
below0°C(32.0°F),chargethebatteriesorruntheen-
gineforapproximately2hours.Thiswillpreventbattery
freezing.
Lubricants
Followtherecommendedoilandlterservicefortheen-
gineandhydraulicsystemasshowninthismanual.Use
thecorrectviscosityoilineachcomponentfortheambient
temperaturesthemachineisoperatingin.Forextreme
coldconditions,contactyourdealerforalternativelubri-
cantsforthehydraulicandtransmissionsystems.
Fuel
Checkwithyourfuelsupplierforthecorrectcoldweather
fuel.Enginepowerwillbereducedifwaxparticlesarein
thefuellters.Somecoldweatherfuelblendsresultin
lowerenginepower.
Checkforwaterinthefuelsystem.Coldtemperatures
cancausecondensationtoforminthefueltank.Check
anddrainthefuelprelterandfueltankforwaterasre-
quired.
Coolingsystem
Checkthecoolantmixturebeforeoperatingincoldtem-
peratures.Amixtureof50%ethyleneglycoland50%
watermustbeused.Thismixtureisusedifthelowestam-
bienttemperatureis-37°C(-34°F).Iftheambienttem-
peratureislower,adjustthemixture.Itisrecommended
thatethyleneglycolandwaterbeusedinthemachineall
yearlong.
