11.4.6 Start up with auxiliary batteries
CAUTION
Start-up with auxiliary batteries is an operation that requires two properly trained and qualified operators.
Anerrorinexecutingtheoperationscancauseseriousdamagetothevehicle,topropertyandpeople.
– Whenstartingtheengineusinganothervehicle,connecttheaccumulatorsinparallel.Whenconnecting
thecables,avoidcontactbetweenthepositivecable"+"andthenegativecable"".
– Wearthenecessarypersonalprotectiveequipmentbeforestartingtheoperation.
– Takecaretoavoidcontactbetweenthevehicletobestartedandthevehiclethatmustsupplypowerto
preventsparksandexplosionsofhydrogenproduced bytheaccumulators.Theaccumulatorexplosion
causesseriousdamageandinjury.
– Makesurenottoexchangetheignitionwiresandfirstconnecttheearthwire()andthenthepositive
wire(+).
– Be very careful when removing the ignition cables; to ensure that the cables disconnected from the
accumulatordonottouchotherpartsofthevehicletoavoidexplosionscausedbyhydrogen.
– Cablesandclamps must beproportionaltothecurrent load tobetransferred.The accumulator tobe
used for the startup must have a capacity greater than or at least equal to that of the standard
accumulatorinstalled.
– Check the cables and clamps for corrosion or damage. Make sure the clamps are tightly gripping the
terminals.
– Beverycarefulduringthedifferentoperations:directorindirectcontactwithlivepartscanresultininjury
andsometimesevenindeath.
– When starting the engine, the operator must be in the driver's seat so as to keep the vehicle under
control.
– Alltheseoperationsmustbecarriedoutbyskilledandtrainedpersonnel.
11.4.6.1 Cable connection and engine start-up
1. Makesuretheignitionkeyisinposition"O".
2. Connect the positive terminals"+" of the two batteries to
eachother.
3. Connect the cable from the negative terminal "" of the
chargedbatterytotheearthblockofthevehicletostartup.
4. Ifachargedbatteryinstalledonaproperlyrunningvehicleis
used,starttheengineofthelatterandrunitathighrpm.
5. Starttheengineofthefailedvehicle.
NOTICE!In case the battery is not easily accessible, it is
possible to connect the cables through the battery cut‐
off switch of the vehicle.
1. Thenconnectthepositiveterminal"+"oftheauxiliarybattery
toaconnectorofthebatterycutoffswitch.
2. Connectthenegativeterminal""oftheauxiliarybatterytoa
boltontheframe.

11.4.6.2 Cables removal
Withtheenginerunningremovethecablesinreverseorderoftheconnection.
