5.16 Starting and stopping the machine
5.16.1 General warnings regarding starting up the vehicle
CAUTION
Do not use the vehicle without having first read and understood all parts of this manual, and without
having attended an adequate training course.
– Before starting the engine, make sure all control levers are in a neutral position, the parking brake is
engaged,theenginehoodisclosedandthatthereisnobodyintheareasurroundingthemachine.
– Themachinecanonlybestartedupormaneuveredwhentheoperatorisseatedinthedriver'sseat,with
theseatbeltfastenedandadjusted.
– Themachinemaymovesuddenlyifstartedupwithoutfollowingthecorrectprocedure,thus,creatingthe
riskofdamage.
– Neverstarttheenginebycausingashortcircuitbetweentheterminalsofthestarter.
– Neverstartuptheenginebypushingorpullingthevehicle.Thiscouldseriouslyharmpeopleorcause
seriousdamagetothevehicle.
– Be careful when using auxiliary batteries as the gas contained in these may explode, causing serious
damage. Follow the instructions provided in the "Emergency procedures" chapter, "Startup using
auxiliary batteries" paragraph to start the engine using auxiliary batteries. An incorrect procedure can
causeseriousdamagetotheelectrical/electronicsystem,thevehiclecouldmovesuddenly,thebattery
couldexplodeanddamagecouldbecausedtoobjectsand/orpeople.
– Do not start the engine or touch the levers of the machine if a danger sticker or a maintenance in
progresssignisplacedinsidethecab.
5.16.2 Inspections prior to starting-up
5.16.2.1 Inspecting the machine
Carefullyinspectyourmachineeverydayorbeforeeveryshift.
Carryoutthefollowinginspectionsandoperatingchecks:
– Parkingbrakeefficiency
– Intactconditionofthetires
– Typeoftiresuitableforthetypeofworkground
– Engineoillevel(checkandtopup,ifnecessary)
– Hydraulicoillevel(checkandtopup,ifnecessary)
– Airfiltercloggingindicator(checkandclean,ifnecessary)
– Tireinflationandpressure(check)
– Fuellevel(check)
– Signalingandwarningdevices(check)
– Steeringefficiency
– Servicebrakeefficiency
– Tightnessofallnutsandbolts
– Lighting
– Directionindicators
– EmergencyLights
