Printer Alignment
Good Printhead alignment is critical to ensure the correct operation of the Printer.
If the Printhead to print roller/platen alignment is poor, you may see the following
problems:
• Ribbon tracking
• Poor printing
• Uneven Printhead and print roller wear
The picture below shows how the Printhead must be aligned to the print roller or platen:
• The head mount kit is supplied with 2 stainless shims 1.0 and 0.5mm thick. To
decide the correct shim or combination of shims, measure the gap between the
Printhead and the print surface when the Cassette is closed and the cylinder is in
the prime position
• If this distance is too great, reduce the gap by adding the appropriate shim from the
kit. Add either a single or a combination of supplied head shims between the head
mount assembly and the mounting surface of the SmartDate X40 Printer
• With the Cassette closed and the cylinder in the prime position, set the gap
between the Printhead and the print platen or roller to a maximum of 1.0mm to
2.0mm (for SmartDate X40 Intermittent) or 0.5mm to 1.00mm (for SmartDate X40
Continuous)
• Tighten the head mount and recheck the distance to make sure the gap is correct
Caution: Care must be taken not to damage the Printhead by scratching it with
any object when measuring the gap.
