4.2.1 EIA-232 Serial Communications Card
The EIA-232 communications cards meet all EIA-232 specifications for single-ended, asynchronous
data transmission over distances of up to 50 feet. The EIA-232 communications cards provide transmit,
receive, and modem control signals. Normally, not all of the control signals are used for any single
application. Refer to Figure 4-1.

The EIA-232 communications card includes LED indicators along the left-hand side that display the
status of the RXD, TXD, DTR, DCD, CTS, and RTS control lines. LED indicators are detailed in
Table 4-1.
