Chapter 6: Maintenance and Troubleshooting
If using a magnetic mount, check that mating surfaces are clean and free
of debris.
NOTE: Small metal shavings can cause the magnetic mount to rock
back and forth. The magnet will naturally attract these shavings.
If using a vacuum mount, check that mating surfaces are clean and free
of debris. Ensure you are using the proper amount of vacuum oil.
Base Deflection
1. Start the FaroArm Manager software and connect your Quantum.
2. Click Diagnostics > Base Deflection.
3. Set up the FARO compensation cone, or a hole on your part,
approximately ⅔ of the Quantum's reach away from its base.
4. Place a properly compensated probe firmly in the cone. The probe must
be well-seated in the hole.
5. Press the green Front button and move the tubes and joints of the
Quantum while keeping the probe firmly seated in the cone.
• Press the green Front button to reset the screen at any time.
6. Press the red Back button to stop.
7. Any deflection of the base is recorded and displayed on the screen. All
of the points must be within the circle on the graph.
Tilt
1. Click Diagnostics > Diagnostic Tilt.
2. Hold the handle in the air approximately ⅔ of the Quantum's reach away
from its base.
3. Press the green Front button and move the tubes and joints of the
Quantum.
• Any tilt of the base is recorded and displayed on the screen. All of
the points must be within the circle on the graph.
•Press Reset to clear the screen.
NOTE: If the Base Deflection test fails and the Tilt test passes,
check the stability of your part.
