Chapter 2: Setting up the Quantum
Hardware Setup
The following sections describe the proper setup of the Quantum system. This
includes attaching the Quantum to your work surface or tripod, and connecting
the Quantum to your computer.
Mounting the Base
The counterbalance by the tension spring generates torque at the base of the
Quantum; therefore, the mount must meet certain requirements to achieve
optimum machine accuracy.
CAUTION: The Quantum must be mounted in a upright position. Do Not
mount the Quantum in an inverted (upside down) or sideways position.
If you are not using a tripod, attach the 3½” threaded ring and surface mount
plate to any stable location. To mount the Quantum:
1. Remove the Quantum from the Shipping case.
2. Place the Quantum onto the 3½” ring of your tripod or surface mount plate.
Thread the base collar onto the ring and hand tighten.
3. Tighten the base collar using the attached handles.

CAUTION: Always remove the Quantum from the tripod before moving
the tripod to another location.
