Chapter 4: Probes
NOTE: Quantum probes will not attach to any earlier FaroArm models.
Probes from earlier FaroArm models will not attach to the Quantum without
an optional adapter.
The Quantum’s point of measurement on any ball probe is the center of the ball.
Third-party feature measurement or quality control software compensates for the
radius of the ball probe. Point probes are only recommended when the software
will not compensate for the radius of the ball probe. The point probe has an
impact on measurement accuracy. The error depends on:
• The width of the point on the probe.
• The position and placement of the point on the object.
Before measuring with the Quantum the probe must be compensated. Use the
Probes command in your measuring software, to set up and compensate the
probe.
For more information, see “Probes” on page 55.
NOTE: All FARO i-Probes have a unique serial number. After compensating
an i-Probe, the compensation information stores on your computer. If you
remove the i-Probe and reinstall it later, the Quantum automatically loads the
compensation data.
