Chapter 6: Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Constant Ground Monitors - Constant monitors are connected to a workstation
mat and operator and will sound an audible alarm if any ground is interrupted.
Troubleshooting
Error message on host computer.
• Contact FARO’s Customer Service by Phone, Fax or E-Mail. See
“Technical Support” on page 161. Have the message ready.
Probe compensation fails.
• Make sure the Quantum probe is secure.
• Make sure that the compensation hole, cone or sphere is located about ⅔
the distance of the Quantum from the base.
• Make sure that the compensation cone, or sphere, is securely screwed
into the holder and that the holder is securely fastened to a stable
surface.
• Make sure that probe tip is in contact with hole, cone or sphere.
• Compensate the probe again, and check that all points were digitized
properly.
• Use the other compensation method (sphere or hole).
Buttons (green Front & red Back) will not respond.
• Make sure that all of the encoders are referenced. See “Referencing the
Encoders” on page 38.
• Turn auxiliary port OFF. See “Edit Probe” on page 57.
• Check buttons in Diagnostic command. See “Diagnostics” on page 80.
Single-point calibration shows excessive error.
• You must use a ball probe. Check that it is installed correctly. See
“Installing Probes” on page 19.
• Recompensate probe. See “Probe Compensation” on page 59.
• During the test, watch the probe to ensure flush seating in the hole. See
“Quantum Calibration” on page 115.
Power Issues
If the Quantum is receiving power from the power source, or outlet, but not
powering up the system, the source of this issue may lie in one or all of the
following areas:
• Ensure you are using the correct cables.
