electronics. The Quantum is permanently compensated, such that it does not
require mechanical adjustments during normal operation.
The Quantum compensation becomes invalid (stop functioning within FARO's
published standards) if one or more of the following occurs:
• Bending of the transfer cases (long, tube sections).
• Damage to the encoder-bearing interface joints (where tubes, bearings and
encoders are mated).
• Failure of the encoder-electronics system (changes motion into electrical
data).
• Excessive impact with another object or an end stop. The impact may cause
the transfer cases to bend, the joint housings to deform, or the encoder-
bearing interface pin system to loosen.
Any of these problems require FARO’s Customer Service Department to
disassemble the Quantum, repair the necessary item(s), and perform a factory
compensation. A factory compensation is necessary since the physical nature of
the Quantum has been changed.
ISO 10360 Standard
Accuracy testing and certification is according to the ISO 10360-12 standard, and
the ISO 10360-8 standard for the ScanArm.
ISO 10360-12 Standard
The ISO 10360-12 standard requires four probing and one distance test. The tests
results are an error and each test has a Maximum Permissible Error (MPE).
SPAT - Single Point Articulation Test.
The operator seats the Quantum probe in a hole
and measures points while moving the joints. The
error is the greatest distance between any two
points.
PSize - Sphere Probing Size Error. The operator
measures a sphere with the Quantum probe. The
error is the difference between the measure and
actual diameter of the sphere.
