Air conditioning
118
Controls in detail
You can switch off the flow of outside air if
unpleasant odors are entering the vehicle
from outside. The air inside the vehicle is
then recirculated.
Air-conditioning system/heater
E Press the e switch.
If the indicator lamp in the button lights
up, air-recirculation mode is activated.
Air-recirculation mode is automatically
switched off after about 10 to 30 minutes,
depending on the outside temperature.
Air conditioning in the rear/rear heat-
ing
If your vehicle is equipped with rear-com-
partment heating and rear-compartment
air conditioning, you can activate/
deactivate the air-recirculation mode of
the rear-compartment climate control.
E To activate: set the temperature con-
trol of rear-compartment air condition-
ing ; (e page 113) or rear-
compartment heating = (e page 114)
to the center position.
Only one of the two climate control sys-
tems in the rear compartment is acti-
vated and is in air-recirculation mode.
E To deactivate: turn the temperature
control of rear-compartment air condi-
tioning ; (e page 113) or rear-com-
partment heating = (e page 114)
clockwise or counterclockwise. Only
change the temperature in small incre-
ments.
The auxiliary heating can be operated with
the engine switched on or off, and supple-
ments the standard vehicle heating. It is
equipped with a water heater.
Switching air-recirculation mode
on/off
G Warning
Only switch over to air-recirculation mode
briefly if outside temperatures are low. The
windows could otherwise fog up. As a result,
you could be distracted from road and traffic
conditions and cause an accident.
Auxiliary heating
G Warning
Exhaust fumes are produced while the auxilia-
ry heating is in operation. If you inhale these
exhaust fumes, they could poison you. For this
reason, switch off the auxiliary heating in en-
closed spaces without an extraction system,
e.g., a garage.
G Warning
Parts of the vehicle can become very hot dur-
ing operation of the auxiliary heating. Make
sure that the exhaust system does not under
any circumstances come into contact with
highly flammable material, such as dry grass
or fuels. Otherwise, the highly flammable ma-
terial could ignite and set the vehicle on fire.
Operation of the auxiliary heating system is
therefore prohibited at gas stations or when
refueling your vehicle. The auxiliary heating
must therefore be switched off at refueling
stations.
G Warning
Observe the relevant safety regulations in the
case of vehicles used for the transport of haz-
ardous goods.
Aerosols, gas cartridges and other pressur-
ized containers transported in the vehicle may
be highly flammable and could explode when
heated. Make sure that the containers de-
scribed are kept away from the flow of hot air
from the auxiliary heating. Never stow con-
tainers of this type immediately next to or on
top of the heater. Otherwise, you could endan-
ger yourself and others.
