Controls in detail
You can use the auxiliary heating at an out-
side temperature of up to 39 °F (4 °C), in
order to:
O preheat the vehicle interior and to de-
ice the windows
O provide the coolant with additional
heating, thereby protecting the engine
and saving fuel
O support the vehicle's heating system
while the engine is running and outside
temperatures are low (heater booster
function) (
e page 121).
i At an outside temperatures above 39 °F
(4 °C), the auxiliary heating system and the heat-
er booster function switch off automatically.
! Switch on the auxiliary heating at regular in-
tervals (at least once a month) for approximately
10 minutes.
Make sure that the hot air flow is not obstructed.
The auxiliary heating would otherwise overheat
and switch off.
i If the interior motion sensor (e page 54) is
primed and the auxiliary heating is switched on,
it is possible that the interior temperature moni-
toring may cause a false alarm. In this case, ei-
ther deactivate the interior motion sensor or
switch off the auxiliary heating.
Before switching on
The fuel tank must be at least a quarter full
to ensure that the auxiliary heating oper-
ates correctly.
E Adjust the heat output to the desired
temperature using the temperature
control selector of the air-conditioning
system or heater (e page 114).
E Set the air distribution as required
(e page 116).
E Open the center and side air vents and
set them to their center position
(e page 115).
i The auxiliary heating automatically switches
to heater booster mode after the engine is start-
ed.
