Cleaning and care of the vehicle
198
Operation
Scratches, corrosive deposits, areas af-
fected by corrosion and damage caused by
neglect or inadequate care cannot always
be completely remedied.
In such cases, consult an authorized
Sprinter Dealer.
! Repair damage caused by loose chippings
and remove the following substances immedi-
ately:
O insect remains
O bird droppings
O tree resin
O oils and grease
O fuel
O tar stains
Otherwise, consequential damage may occur.
Wash the vehicle more frequently in winter to re-
move salt residue.
! After cleaning your vehicle, especially the
wheel rims with rim cleaner, do not simply park
the vehicle and leave it. Rim cleaners can pro-
mote corrosion of the brake discs and the brake
pads/linings. Before parking and leaving the ve-
hicle after cleaning, always warm the vehicle up
to normal operating temperature first.
Steps
Outside of windshield and wiper blades
E Turn the key to position 0 in the igni-
tion lock or remove the key.
! Do not fold the windshield wipers away from
the windshield unless the hood is closed. You will
otherwise damage the hood.
E Fold the wiper arms away from the
windshield until you feel them engage
in place.
E You can now clean the windshield and
the wiper blades.
E Fold the windshield wipers back again
before you switch on the ignition.
Headlamps
E Wipe the headlamp lenses with a damp
sponge.
i Only use washer fluid which is suitable for
plastic lamp lenses.
Unsuitable washer fluid may damage the plastic
headlamp lenses.
For this reason, do not use a dry cloth, abrasive
material, solvent or solvent-based cleaning
agent. You could otherwise scratch or damage
the lens surface.
Light-alloy wheels
E Clean light-alloy wheels on a regular
basis.
! Do not use any acidic or alkaline cleaning
agents. They can cause corrosion of the wheel
bolts (wheel nuts) or the balancing weight retain-
ers.
Cleaning the vehicle exterior
G Warning
Dirty or iced-up steps and entrances create a
risk of slipping or falling.
Keep steps, entrances and footwear free
from dirt (e.g. mud, clay, snow and ice).
G Warning
Turn the key to position 0 in the ignition lock
before cleaning the windshield or the wiper
blades. The windshield wipers could other-
wise move and injure you.
