346 THE HASSELBLAD MANUAL
Figure 18-9 Ready light. In the 200 camera models with built-in metering systems, a green fl ash
symbol on the viewfi nder display indicates when the fl ash is ready to be fi red (a). A HI FLASH or
LO FLASH warning appears after the picture is made if the fl ash illumination was excessive or
insuffi cient (b). On the other camera models, the ready light is visible at the edge of the
focusing screen (c). It fl ickers after the exposure if the fi lm received a suffi cient amount of light.
Figure 18-10 Fill fl ash outdoors. In an outdoor portrait with the sunlight used as a backlight
or sidelight, the fl ash must be reduced so it just brings a little light into the face and eyes
without looking like a secondary light source. In the candid picture in a shady location in
Thailand, a touch of fl ash was added just to brighten the eyes and face of the smiling boy.
