50 THE HASSELBLAD MANUAL
in the magazine automatically adjusts for the different thickness of 120 fi lm with paper and
220 fi lm without paper to ensure that you obtain images with the very best image sharpness
no matter which fi lm you use. If needed, you can buy either additional complete fi lm maga-
zines or additional fi lm inserts.
Removing and Attaching the H Film Magazine
The H fi lm magazines have a built-in darkslide curtain that can be closed and opened manu-
ally by turning the magazine darkslide key (item 47, Figure 4-1 and Figure 4-5).
The darkslide curtain is closed, covering the fi lm area, when the dot on the darkslide key
points toward the closed mouth symbol and the darkslide indicator below the key shows
red. The darkslide curtain is open when the dot on the key points toward the open mouth
symbol and the signal is white. As with all Hasselblad cameras, the magazine can be removed
only when the signal is red (curtain closed), and pictures can be taken only when the signal
is white. A warning, “the darkslide is closed,” appears on the grip display and in the viewfi nder
if you try to take pictures with the curtain closed.
To remove the magazine from the camera body, turn the Magazine Release button (item
39, Figure 4-1) on the camera body to the right while pressing the central round part of
the circular button toward the camera body. The darkslide curtain cannot be opened on a
detached magazine because this would expose the fi lm in the magazine to light.
You attach a magazine by simply placing the magazine support groove (item 49, Figure 4-1)
into the support and pressing the magazine toward the camera body. Do not touch the
Databus connections with your fi ngers. Place the protective cover on the magazine and
