Exchange only with the IBM-approved part. Recycle or discard the battery as instructed by local
regulations. In the United States, IBM has a process for the collection of this battery. For information,
call 1-800-426-4333. Have the IBM part number for the battery unit available when you call. (C003)
This service action assumes that:
v The node is turned off.
v The power cables are disconnected.
v The battery is removed from the node.
v The top cover is off.
Perform the following steps to replace the SAN Volume Controller 2145-CG8 or 2145-CF8 system-board
CMOS battery:
1. Follow any special handling and installation instructions that come with the replacement battery.
2. Locate the battery on the system board. Figure 139 shows the location (1) of the battery on the
system board.
3. Insert the new battery:
a. Tilt the battery so that you can insert it into the socket on the side opposite the battery clip.
b. Press the battery across into the socket until it clicks into place. Make sure that the battery clip
holds the battery securely, as shown in Figure 140 on page 150.
