Moldboard Angle Cylinder
1. Park the grader on a level surface in a designated
area where oil does not touch or run off onto the
ground.
2. Engage the park brake, shut down the engine, and
place wheel chocks on wheels for safety.
3. Use a sling or other means of supporting the
moldboard angle cylinders.
4. Disconnect, plug and tag the hydraulic hoses, being
very careful to prevent any contamination when
plugging the hydraulic hose ttings.
NOTE: Inspect the hydraulic ttings. Replace any
damaged or worn ttings.
5. Remove the cotter and cylinder pins on each side of
one of the angle cylinders, then the other cylinder.
6. Carefully slide each moldboard angle cylinder from
the frame to remove it. Clean the area thoroughly
before installing new cylinders. (Figure 5-43)

7. Position the new moldboard angle cylinder into
place on one side. Insert the cylinder and cotter
pins. (It is recommended that you use new cotter
pins.)
8. Complete Step 7 on the other side if needed.
9. Reconnect the hydraulic hoses according to the
tags for correct reconnection.
10. Using a grease gun, lubricate the rods on each
cylinder.
11. Start the engine and idle for a few minutes to ensure
the hydraulic oil has warmed in the system.
Articulate Cylinders
Articulated steering is very common for graders and
other off-road industrial machines. Slow speeds and
rough terrain make this steering system ideal. An
articulate cylinder on each side of the front “boom”
connects to swivel pivot joints that connect the boom
and cab frame together. When the operator turns to the
right or left, pressurized hydraulic oil pushes the cylinder
in the corresponding direction, “articulating” the joint.
To replace the articulate cylinders:
1. Park the grader on a level surface in a designated
area where oil does not touch or run off onto the
ground.
2. Engage the park brake, shut down the engine, and
place wheel chocks on wheels for safety.
3. Use a sling or other means of supporting the
articulate cylinder.
4. Disconnect, plug and tag the hydraulic hoses, being
very careful to prevent any contamination when
plugging the hydraulic hose ttings.
NOTE: Inspect the hydraulic ttings. Replace any
damaged or worn ttings.
5. Remove the cotter and cylinder pins on each side of
one of the articulate cylinders. (Figure 5-44)
