Before driving on public roads, check
state and local laws that may apply to industrial
self-propelled machines. Additional lights, mirrors,
slow-moving vehicle emblems, or reectors may be
required.
STAY SEATED while operating
the grader. For additional safety, the grader will
automatically return to neutral and stop if the
operator stands while moving in forward or reverse.
Drive the grader with care and at
speeds compatible with conditions. Use extra
caution when operating over rough ground, on
slopes, while turning and “ditching.”
Drive cautiously when entering or
leaving a road shoulder to prevent a possible roll-
over.
Keep in mind:
Walk around the grader and visually inspect the
entire machine, ensuring the moldboard and any
other attachments are in an elevated position before
starting the engine. Perform an operational safety
check before operating the grader, ensuring all
equipment functions properly and all safety equipment
(i.e., re extinguisher) is present.
Adjust the seat, steering console and mirrors
BEFORE driving the grader. Wear your seat belt!
Stop at all railroad crossings and look both ways
before proceeding.
Stop the grader before changing gears and before
changing directions while driving.
Watch your speed. At higher speeds, inertia forces
tend to make the grader less stable. Use extra
caution at intersections.
Keep both ends of the moldboard high and within
the width of the grader when travelling. Pay extra
attention to obstacles that can damage the blade, i.e.,
manholes, signs, and road debris, etc.
Be aware of trafc behind you. Pull over to the side of
the road to allow vehicles to safely pass if needed.
Ensure proper warning ags and/or devices are in
place to warn trafc of road construction, slow-moving
vehicle or other trafc alerts. If working at night,
ensure the work site is well-lit and well-marked.
Caution should be taken to keep the blade away from
the tires in all driving and operational situations.
If using front or rear attachments, work in low gear and
reduce speed.
Adjust Seat
The operator seat suspension provides comfort by
absorbing some of the machine movements during
operation. It can also be adjusted for individual comfort.
(Figure 4-24)
Always make seat and seat belt adjustments BEFORE
driving the grader. The seat belt is designed for safe
operator retention if the machine is involved in an
accident or roller-over.
Use the suspension adjustment knob to set the
suspension for operator weight. Rotate knob to
increase or decrease setting as shown on the knob
face.
Use the Seat Position adjustment lever to move the
seat forward or backward. Pull up on the lever to
adjust and release to lock into place.
