Secondary Steering
The secondary steering option serves as a temporary
emergency steering back-up in the event of engine
failure or loss of hydraulic pressure. The secondary
steering system has a separate electrically-driven pump
that delivers hydraulic uid to the steering motor in the
event primary steering fails due to loss of hydraulic
pressure. This is an emergency feature that allows the
ability to steer the grader off the road, but is not intended
for traveling any distance as it will overheat quickly.
To activate, turn the secondary steering switch on the
control panel up to the ON position. (Figure 4-64)
Turn the switch down to disengage secondary
steering.

Sliding Moldboard
The 685D Motor Grader is equipped with an 11-foot
(3.35 m) sliding moldboard. A 12-foot (3.65 m) sliding
moldboard option is also available for even more reach.
See your LeeBoy dealer for installation.
Circle Side Shift
The circle side shift option allows the circle (or
turntable) and moldboard to reach far beyond the
wheels on either side. In its extreme position, it allows
the grader to position the moldboard blade in the bottom
of a highway ditch while traveling on secure footing on
the highway surface. For slope trimming, the moldboard
can swing out to either side and position at any angle
from horizontal to vertical.
