Wheel Steering Cylinder
The wheel steering cylinder hydraulically turns the front
wheels right and left. The cylinder can be accessed
without jacking up the front end, but working underneath
provides better access.
It is recommended that you use a
hydraulic lift if available when raising the vehicle.
Otherwise, use jack stands on a solid, at surface
to prevent the machine from tipping when it is
raised. Block the remaining wheels using sturdy
wheel chocks. DO NOT lie under the machine while
supported only by a jack. Death or serious injury can
result from improperly supporting a raised machine.
To replace the wheel steering cylinder:
1. Park the grader on a level surface in a designated
area where oil does not touch or run off onto the
ground.
2. Engage the park brake, shut down the engine, and
place wheel chocks on wheels for safety.
3. Use a block or other means of supporting the
steering cylinder.
4. Disconnect, plug and tag the hydraulic hoses, being
very careful to prevent any contamination when
plugging the hydraulic hose ttings.
NOTE: Inspect the hydraulic ttings. Replace any
damaged or worn ttings.
5. The cylinder end connectors are a tie rod end
shaft connected to the tie rod end housing. While
supporting the cylinder, remove the mounting nut
and washers, then loosen the jam nut. (Figure
