ABS warning indicator
DOIUW006R22001
When the ignition switch is turned to
the ON position, the ABS warning lamp
will illuminate for 3 seconds.
If the ABS has a malfunction, the ABS
warning indicator will stay illuminated.
In this situation, only the standard brake
system will be in operation.
When the ABS warning indicator illumin-
ates while driving, take the following
action:
1. Stop the vehicle in a safe area and
turn off the engine. Start the en-
gine again and check if the ABS
warning indicator stop illuminates.
If the ABS warning indicator does
not illuminate, there is no problem.
If the ABS warning indicator stays
illuminated or illuminates again
when driving, drive vehicle immedi-
ately to an authorised PROTON
outlets for inspection.
2. Starting the engine with jumper
cables before the battery is suffi-
ciently charged, the engine will not
run smoothly. The ABS warning in-
dicator flashes to caution not to
drive the vehicle.
In this situation, start the engine
and in idle position until the bat-
tery is sufficiently charged.
WARNING
If there is malfunction when apply-
ing the brakes, the standard brake
warning will illuminate.
When this condition happens, do
not press the brake pedals hard.
Drive the car slowly to an author-
ised PROTON service outlet.
NOTE
(1) The brake system operates with
normal pedal operation. When the
anti-lock function is activated, series
of pulses is felt at the brake pedal
and there will be a screeching
sound. This condition indicates that
the system is working.
(2) Immediately after starting the en-
gine and the vehicle starts to move,
there will be a sound from the mo-
tor the engine compartment. When
pressing the brake pedal, there will
be a sudden jerk. This condition is
caused by the self-diagnosis opera-
tion of the ABS and does not indic-
ate any malfunction.
(3) ABS does not operate at low speeds
(approximately 10 km/h or lower)
and the brake system operates ac-
cording to the normal brake system.
(4) After driving the vehicle on dirt
roads, remove all dust or mud from
the wheel areas. When cleaning the
wheels of vehicles with ABS, do not
damage the wheel speed sensors
and cables at each wheel.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) *
ESC system gives stable control to the
vehicle when making at turn move. ESC
checks the stabilizes the steering and
the vehicle direction. ESC applies the
brakes at each wheel and stabilizes the
vehicle.
WARNING
Do not over speed or make a sud-
den turn at corners. The ESC system
cannot prevent accidents. The ac-
tions of over speeding, make sud-
den turns and aquaplaning can
cause accidents. Only a safe and
careful driver can prevent the acci-
dents. Do not make a sudden turns
that cause the vehicle to loss trac-
tion. Always follow the normal
precautions when driving. Drive
within the speed limits all the time.
ESC system is an electronic system that
helps the driver to keep the vehicle in
control under bad conditions. ESC is not
* if fitted
