When you stop this vehicle with the en-
gine running, for example at traffic
lights, you can leave the gear in the “D”
(Drive) position while pressing the brake
pedal.
If you must stop this vehicle with the
engine in running, move the gear shift
lever to the “N” (Neutral) position and
apply the parking brake.
CAUTION
Do not stop the vehicle at a slope
with the transmission engaged. Al-
ways apply the parking brake and
if necessary, apply the brake pedal.
Parking
Stop this vehicle. Apply the parking
brake and move the gear shift lever to
the “P” (Park) position.

The pattern of the gear change positions
is shown at the top of the gearshift lever
knob. Always make sure to push the
clutch pedal before you move the gear
shift lever.

CAUTION
● Do not move the gear shift lever
into R (Reverse) position while the
vehicle moving forward. This action
can damage the transmission.
● When not changing a gears, do
not foot the clutch pedal for no
reason. This action can cause the
clutch wear or damage in short
time.
NOTE
(1) If the gear shift lever cannot be
moved to the 1st gear, press again
the clutch pedal and move the gear
shift lever.
(2) When this vehicle stops, move the
gear shift lever from 5th position
to “R” (Reverse) position, move the
gear shift lever to the “N" (Neutral)
position before moving the gear
shift lever to “R” (Reverse) position.
Changing gears
Always change the gear when the
vehicle speed is within the permissible
engine speed. Correct gear selection will
increase the fuel economy and extend
the engine life. Do not change the gear
position from high to low position at
high speed. This action increases the
engine speed (the tachometer needle
moves into the red zone) and may
damage the engine.
