This vehicle uses more fuel when
you start a cold engine. This vehicle
uses more fuel if the hot engine is
put in idle position. After the en-
gine has started, drive immediately.

How to start the engine
1 - When the engine is not running
and the steering wheel is in the
LOCK position, insert the key into
the ignition switch.
2 - When the ignition switch is put into
the ACC position, some instruments
for example radio will operate.
3 - When the engine starts, all electric-
al systems will operate.
4 - When the ignition switch is put into
the START position, the starter mo-
tor will operate and start the en-
gine. After the engine has started,
release the key and the key will
automatically return to the “ON”
position.
How to stop the engine and remove
the key

1. Turn the ignition switch into the
ACC position to stop the engine.
2. When the ignition switch is in the
ACC position, push the key in and
turn to the LOCK position. Remove
the key.
Ignition key reminder *
When the key is in the LOCK or the ACC
position and the driver's door is opened,
you will hear the interval sounds from
the meter cluster as a reminder to re-
move the key from the ignition switch.
When the ignition key is removed, the
sound will stop.
CAUTION
(1) Do not remove the ignition key
from the ignition switch while
driving. The steering wheel will
lock and cause loss of control.
(2) If the engine stops while driv-
ing, the brake servomechanism
will not operate and cause a
reduction in quality of the
brake system. The power
steering system will not oper-
ate and you must steer the
steering wheel with more
force.
(3) When the engine does not op-
erate, do not leave the ignition
switch in the ON position. The
battery of the vehicle will dis-
charge.
(4) When the engine does not op-
erate, do not put the ignition
key to the START position. The
