PROFINET IO interface
10.1.1 Generic station description (GSD)
A generic station description (GSD) contains a description of the properties
of a PROFINET IO device, e.g., the data transmission rate supported by the
device or the digital information the PLC receives from the device and the
formatofthisinformation.BitmaplesarealsoGSDles.Thestatusofthe
PROFINETIOdeviceisvisualizedusingtheseles.
The generic station description as well as the respective bitmaps are need-
ed to plan a PROFINET IO network. Every device receives an ID number
from the PROFINET IO user organization (PNO).

Please note that the GSD le for the DL100 Pro
PROFINET IO / SSI variant is not compatible with the
DL100-2xxxx2112 device variants, which are also

10.1.2 Reading in generic station description (GSD)
BeforeyoucancongurePROFINETIOfortheDL100ProPROFINETIOfor
thersttime,youwillhavetoloadthegenericstationdescriptionofthe
DL100 Pro into the hardware catalog of the network engineering tool (e.g.,
TIA-Manager from Siemens).
1. DownloadtheGSDlefromthewww.sick.com/dl100webpage.
2. Follow the instructions in the online help or in the user manual of the
network engineering tool in order to read in the generic station descrip-
tion.
The hardware catalogue is displayed in the network engineering tool.
YoucanuseaPROFINETIOnetworkengineeringtooltocongurethe
distance measuring device for your application. You will need the generic
station description (GSD) to do so.
