5.Liftandsupportthemachinewithjackstandssothatallthedrivewheels
areofftheground.Inthistest,thedrivewheelsneedtospinfreelytoallow
hydraulicowthroughthetractioncircuit.
Note:Ensurethattheparkingbrakeisnotapplied.
6.Cleanthetransmissionareaaroundthetractioncircuithosesonthetopof
thetransmission(Figure48).
7.Determinewhichpistonpumpistobetested.Disconnectthehydraulichose
fromthetransmissionpumpoutletttingtotestthepistonpump(Figure
47orFigure48):

8.Installa40GPMhydraulictester(pressureandow)inseriesbetween
thepumpoutletttinganddisconnectedhose.Ensurethatthetesterow
arrowpointsfromthepumpoutletandtowardthehose.Ensurethatthe
ow-controlvalveonthetesterisfullyopen.
9.Disconnectthebalancinghosefromthetransmissionttingclosesttothe
transmissionpumpoutletttingforthepumptobetested(Figure47orFigure
48).Installasteelcaponthettingandsteelpluginthebalancinghose.
10.Sitintheoperatorseat,starttheengineandrunitatlow-idlespeed(1,400
rpm).Checkforanyhydraulic-uidleaksfromthetestconnectionsand
correctbeforecontinuingthetest.
11.Withtheenginerunning,presstheenginespeedswitchtofullspeed(3,000
rpm)position.Useaphototactomeasuretheenginespeed.
12.HaveanoperatorslowlypushthetractionpedaltothefullFORWARDposition.
13.Slowlyclosethetesterowcontrolvalveuntilthepressuregaugereadingis
6,900kPa(1,000psi).
14.Checktheenginespeedwithaphototacandensurethattheenginespeedis
still3,000rpm.
15.Observetheowgaugeonthetester.
Note:Thetesterreadingshouldbeapproximately53L/minute(14
gallons/minute)foratractionpumpingoodcondition.
16.Openthetesterowcontrolvalve,releasethetractionpedaltotheNEUTRAL
positionandshutofftheengine.Recordthetestresults.
17.Alowerpumpowmayresultinreducedtractioncircuitperformance.Ifthe
owislessthan47.4L/minute(12.5gallons/minute)orapressureof6,900
kPa(1,000psi)cannotbeobtained:
A.Thetransmissionbypassvalve(s)maybeopenordamaged.
B.Thetractioncontrolassemblymayneedadjustment(e.g.,tractionpedal
notrotatingthepumpswashplatefully).
C.Iftheenginespeeddropsexcessivelyasthetesterowcontrolvalveis
closed,theengineperformanceshouldbeevaluated.
