Thetractionneutralsensorisanormallyopenproximitysensorthatcloseswhen
thetractionpedalisintheNEUTRALposition.Thesensormountstoaneutral
endplate(Figure222).Thesensingplateforthetractionneutralsensoristhe
neutralarm.
TheToroElectronicController(TEC)monitorstheoperationoftheneutralsensor.
TestingtheTractionNeutralSensor
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck,settheparking
brake,andshutofftheengine.
2.Beforeyoudisconnecttheneutralsensorfortesting,ensurethatyoutestthe
sensoranditscircuitwiringasaTECelectricalinputwiththeInfoCenter
display;refertoUsingtheInfoCenterDisplayforTroubleshooting(page
5–30).
3.Iftheinputtestingveriesthattheneutralsensorandcircuitwiringare
functioningcorrectly,nofurtherneutralsensortestingisnecessary.
4.Iftheinputtestingdeterminesthattheneutralsensorandcircuitwiringare
notfunctioningcorrectly,proceedwiththetest.
5.Raiseandsupporttheoperatorseat.Locatetheneutralsensor(Figure222).
6.TurnthekeyswitchtotheRUNposition(donotstarttheengine)andcheck
theLEDonthecableendoftheneutralsensor.TheLEDshouldbe
illuminatedwhenthetractionpedalisintheNEUTRALposition.
7.WiththekeyswitchstillintheRUNposition(donotstarttheengine),press
thetractionpedaloutoftheNEUTRALpositionandchecktheLEDonthe
cableendoftheneutralsensor.TheLEDshouldnotbeilluminatedwhen
thetractionpedalisnotintheNEUTRALposition.
8.IftheneutralsensorLEDdidnotfunctioncorrectly,dothefollowing:
A.Ensurethattheneutralsensorisproperlyadjusted;refertoAdjustingthe
TractionNeutralSensor(page5–44).Ifnecessary,adjustthesensor
andreturntostep6.
B.EnsurethatthekeyswitchisintheOFFpositionanddisconnectthe
tractionneutralsensorconnectorfromthemachinewireharness.
