8.5. False judgement usually occurs, which makes the crimping machine stop frequently.
If CFM often makes incorrect judgments, it will stop the machine frequently, thereby
reducing the production’s efficiency. The operators may then choose to loosen the
tolerances in order to keep the machine running as much as possible. However, this
will reduce the CFM performance, and as a result, the wires are not inspected
correctly. This problem can be due to some different causes that are mentioned
below.
Cause 1: Low rigidity crimping machines or Unstable crimping locations.
Our PSS sensor inspects the crimping force through measuring the strain occurring
at the machine body after every crimping.
When the machines are not rigid, or the locations at which the machine is placed on
are unstable, the amount of elasticity on the machine body will vary every time. In
case the customers use low-rigidity machines and place them on unstable spaces,
the machine may distort further due to the shaking of the ground. These causes will
definitely affect the accuracy of the PSS sensor, thereby causing CFM to make wrong
judgements. If this is your case, please consider using our FTW sensors.
Cause 2: Improper crimping range (crimp height) or Worn crimpers.
When the applicators are not adjusted properly or the crimpers are too old and worn,
they will certainly affect the crimping force. Depending on the conditions of the
applicator, crimpers, or the feed position of the terminals and wires, the amount of
load will change accordingly. In some circumstances, CFM will make false
judgements due to these causes.
Therefore, it is recommended to maintain the applicator and crimpers regularly.
Cause 3: Adaptive function is OFF.
This function allows CFM to update the reference force curve constantly during the
operation. Since the crimping load starts to change gradually due to thermal
expansion after the CFM is being used for a while, the actual curve will turn to be
very different from the reference one. This causes CFM to make false alarms.
Refer to 5.3.1. System setting 1 for how to turn on the Adaptive function.
Cause 4: Alignment setting is improper.
At Auto trigger mode, if the Alignment function is turned off, or if its setting is
inappropriate, it may cause CFM to make incorrect judgements since the position of
