2.3.6 Custom application with API
In this scenario, the wrench is driven by a custom application using the API (Application Programmer
Interface). The connection can be made in two different ways:
 USB cable: Allows only one STwrench to be connected to the API at the same time. It is not
possible to send a Pset/Multistage/Job to the wrench via the API.
 IRC-W: Allows more than one STwrench to be connected to the API at the same time. With an
IRC-W connection, the API can also send a Pset/Multistage/Job execute command to the
STwrench.
The STwrench must be equipped with an API RBU.
The ToolsTalk BLM is optional. The custom application drives the STwrench, retrieves the tightening
results and traces and interfaces, if required, with a printer and/or customer database. To connect via IRC-
W, the IRC-W module must be properly configured; this can be done via the API, or via ToolsTalk BLM
(if purchased).
See the chapter Working with the API for more information.
