4. The Automated Decay Test displays the time to complete the test in the upper left of the
screen. This calculation is based on the half-life of the isotope being used to perform the test
and the activity reading from the first measurement.
Example: If you are using Tc-99m for linearity:
Starting Activity: 250 mCi
Half Life: 6 hours
Time required for activity to decay below 10 µCi’s is 96 hours
NOTES:
• Taking measurements every 6 hours will require 16 readings to decay below 10 µCi.
• Taking measurements every 2 hours would require 48 readings to decay below 10 µCi,
which will exceed the maximum number of 24 readings for the Atomlab 500.
• To record readings every 2 hours using Tc-99m, you could begin a test, take 24 readings and
then start a second linearity test and record a second set of readings. (Each set of 24
readings has its own normalized value).
The two linearity tests would then cover the required time and activity for the linearity test.
• A linearity test with Tc-99m is normally measured at 6 hour intervals.
• Make sure your parameters are set up with enough readings to complete the linearity test.
