5.3.4 Intrinsic
Overview
The intrinsic dissolution rate is defined as the dissolution rate of pure
substances under the condition of constant surface area, agitation-stirring
speed, pH and ionic-strength of the dissolution medium. See USP 30-NF 25
General Chapter <1087> for more details.
Once the Intrinsic is assembled with the test material, the assembly is then
immersed, pellet side up, in the bottom of a flat dissolution vessel.
Height setting using Intrinsic:

2 Fully raise the drive head and turn the Easy Drive Lift knob following the direction of the
"Lock" indicator, to lock the drive head in place.

4 Gently slide each shaft halfway up through each spindle. If shafts are hard to to slide, a
very thin film of vacuum grease applied on the shaft (near the bottom of the spindle) will
allow it to slide smoothly.
5 Loosen the locking collar on each shaft.
6 Position each intrinsic disc inside the vessel. Lower the drive head onto the height
adjustment block and turn the drive lift knob to lock position.
