AssuredSAN 4004 Series Setup Guide 43
The preceding illustrations (Figure 34 through Figure 37) show examples of 2U and 4U controller
enclosures cabled to either a 2U or 4U drive enclosure. Where applicable, examples show a single-IOM
configuration followed by a dual-IOM configuration. Within single-IOM figures, the empty IOM slot in
each of the enclosures is covered with an IOM blank to ensure sufficient air flow during enclosure
operation. The remaining illustrations in the section feature enclosures equipped with dual IOMs.
TIP: Per common convention in cabling diagrams, the controller enclosure is shown atop the stack of
connected enclosures. In reality, for Figure 37 on page 42,
you can invert the order of the stack for optimal
weight and placement stability within the rack. The schematic representation of the cabling remains
unchanged. See the rackmount bracket kit installation instructions for your product(s) for more detail.
IMPORTANT: If the 2U24 or 2U12 enclosure is configured with a single controller module, it must be
installed in the upper slot, and an I/O module blank must be installed in the lower slot (shown above). This
configuration is required to allow sufficient air flow through the enclosure during operation.
IMPORTANT: 2U48 and 4U56 controller enclosures support dual-controller configuration only.
Single-controller support is provided only when a controller fails over to its partner controller. A controller
module must be installed in each IOM slot to ensure sufficient air flow through the enclosure during
operation.
See the “Replacing a controller or expansion module” topic within the AssuredSAN 4004 Series FRU
Installation and Replacement Guide for additional information.
