5.14 Contrast Imaging
Contrast Imaging is the application of ultrasound contrast agent to 2D Sonography. Injected contrast
agents re-emit incident acoustic energy much more efficiently than the surrounding tissue, therefore,
bringing enhanced imaging contrast between tissues. The main clinical uses of Contrast imaging
include detecting and characterizing tumors and enhancing blood flow signals.
Contrast Imaging is an option, and may not be available on your ultrasound system.
Only the ABD exam preset of C5-1Q and C5-2Q transducers supports Contrast Imaging.

1. Only sonographer, physician or allied health professional who has received appropriate training
can use the Contrast Imaging.
2. Only use the contrast agents which were cleared for use by relevant government regulation and
approval. EDAN would not guarantee the safety and reliability of any contrast agent.
3. Read, understand and follow the instruction for use accompanied with the contrast agent.
4. Practice ALARA principle when operating ultrasound system. Minimize the acoustic power
without compromising the image quality.
5. The application of Contrast Imaging is for reference only. Diagnosis must not be based on results
achieved by Contrast Imaging analysis alone.
1. Because the acting time of contrast agent is short and limited, please make sure the image has
been optimized to the possibly best before injecting the contrast agent. Adjusting image
parameters during the process of Contrast Imaging will affect the image consistency.
