Place controller in service mode
You can use the place controller in Service Mode option to safely run controller diagnostics
without affecting data availability. These conditions apply when you use Service mode:
ň° When you place a controller into Service mode, all of the logical drives are forced to the
active controller. This mode provides for continuous data access through the active
controller. The preferred logical drive owner does not change. When the controller is
removed from Service mode, the logical drives are redistributed back to their preferred
owner.
ň° You can only place a controller into Service mode only if two controllers are in the storage
subsystem and they are both active.
ň° Service mode is a persistent state. If a controller is reset, goes through a power failure, or
is removed and reinstalled, the controller remains in Service mode.
ň° You cannot make a controller that is in Service mode the owner of any logical drive.
Use the following procedure to set the controller in or out of service mode:
1. Select the controller in the Physical tab of the DS Storage Manager (Subsystem
Management) window and then select the Advanced ďŽ Recovery ďŽ Place controller ďŽ
In Service Mode menu command, as shown in Figure 14-136.

mode.
