14.14.9 Recovery - Fail drive
You can use this function to set the state of a drive to failed.
Use the following procedure to fail a drive:
1. Select the drive to be failed in the DS Storage Manager (Subsystem Management)
window, and then select the Advanced ï‚® Recovery ï‚® Fail Drive menu command, as
shown in Figure 14-143 on page 437.
Note: You should normally only use this function under the guidance of your IBM Technical
Support representative. If you are failing drive to replace it, it is best practise to unassign all
hotspare drives first. This will prevent hotspare reconstruct and copyback operations. The
hotspare drives can be reassigned after the new drives has been installed.
