SYMPTOM CAUSE REMEDY
Engine doesn’t shut
off.
Electrical wiring fault supplying power
to the fuel solenoid when key is in the
OFF position.
Repair wiring.
Faulty diode in engine wire harness at
alternator.
Check diode wire connection and/or replace
diode.
Injection pump fuel solenoid inopera-
tive.
Check solenoid for defects or foreign material
inhibiting proper operations.
Engine operating on fumes drawn into
air intake.
Locate and isolate source of fumes.
Low idle set too high. Set idle to specications.
Ignition switch malfunction.
Repair or replace ignition switch. See your au-
thorized dealer.
Starter pinion gear not disengaging
from ywheel.
Repair or replace. See your authorized dealer.
Engine power output
is low.
Excessive load for engine horsepower
rating.
Reduce load on unity by reducing ground speed.
Operating engine at high altitude.
De-rate engine power output for altitudes above
10,000 feet (305 meters).
Air intake piping restricted. Remove restrictions.
Air cleaner element(s) dirty. Clean or replace air cleaner element(s).
Fuel suction line or lter restricted.
Check fuel line for restrictions.
Replace fuel lter.
Poor quality fuel. Verify by operating with a fuel of known quality.
Fuel return system restricted. Correct restricted fuel return system.
Fuel quality poor. Verify by operating with a known fuel quality.
Fuel transfer pump malfunctioning.
Replace fuel transfer pump.
Refer to Engine Operator’s Manual.
Throttle improperly adjusted. Adjust throttle controls.
Fuel injector malfunctioning.
Replace fuel injector.
Refer to Engine Operator’s Manual.
Abnormal engine
noise (rattle, knock).
Low engine oil level. Fill engine oil to correct level.
Oil viscosity too low for high ambient
temperature.
Change oil and oil lter.
Loose or worn hydraulic pump drive
coupling.
Repair or replace damaged coupling.
Injection pump timing incorrect. See your authorized dealer.
Internal engine component wear. Refer to your Engine Owner’s Manual.
Wrong fuel grade.
Use only ULSD (Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel) fuel with
a maximum sulfur content of 15 ppm (parts per
million).
Starter switch or solenoid stuck. Repair or replace switch or solenoid.
Excessive noise when
starting engine.
Broken teeth on ywheel ring or
starter pinion gear.
Replace starter motor or ring gear. See your
authorized dealer.
Major engine malfunction. See your authorized dealer.
