4-1. Before driving
Driving
Q When connecting and disconnecting a
trailer
Stop your vehicle and a trailer in line and
perform the following:
O Connecting a trailer

Put the AHC in L mode.

Turn off the engine switch or the AHC.
3
Connect a trailer.
4
Turn on the engine switch or the AHC.
5
Select N mode with the height select
switch.
When a vehicle loaded with four occupants
tows a trailer of about 1800 kg (4000 lb.)
with more than about 180 kg (400 lb.)
tongue load, N mode may not be selected.
However, there is no problem to continue
normal driving. Drive with sufficient care
because of large load.
O Disconnecting a trailer

Put the AHC in L mode. (Make sure the
vehicle height is in L mode by pressing
the height select switch .)

Turn off the engine switch or the AHC.

Set the supporting leg of a trailer on the
ground and raise the hitch by 100 mm
(4 in.).

Turn on the engine switch or the AHC.
5
Wait for about 20 seconds until the
rear vehicle height is lowered by the
automatic leveling function.

Make sure the hitch is disconnected. If
not, raise the hitch higher and repeat
steps
2
through
5
.
7
Move the vehicle forward in L mode
where the hitch does not touch anything
in N mode.

Put the AHC in N mode.
Q Tire information
O Increase the tire inflation pressure to
20.0 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm
2
or bar, 3 psi)
greater than the recommended value
when towing. (oP.633)
O Increase the air pressure of the trailer
tires in accordance with the total trailer
weight and according to the values rec-
ommended by the manufacturer of your
trailer.
Q Trailer lights
Check that the turn signal lights and stop-
lights are operating correctly every time
you hitch up the trailer. Directly wiring up to
your vehicle may damage the electrical sys-
tem and stop the lights from functioning
correctly.
Q Safety checks before towing
O Check that the maximum load limit for
the towing hitch/bracket and hitch ball is
not exceeded. Bear in mind that the cou-
pling weight of the trailer will add to the
load exerted on the vehicle. Also make
sure that the total load exerted on the
vehicle is within the range of the weight
limits. (oP.223)
O Ensure that the trailer load is secure.

consumption and endurance of
your vehicle. Use the vehicle fea-
tures in the correct manner and
operate the vehicle with care for
safer driving and optimal comfort.

formed for commercial purposes
are not covered by the Lexus war-
ranty.
