Chapter 21 Appendix A: Operation Commands
131
Command: >set dhcp subnet default_lease
Syntax: set dhcp subnet default_lease name value
Explanation: User can specify default duration of lease using this command. If user does not mention a
default lease, the default value will be one day. One exception is for bootp clients, who are
assigned a lease of infinite time.
Parameters: name name of the subnet
value duration of lease in secs.
Command: >set dhcp subnet max_lease
Syntax: set dhcp subnet max_lease name value
Explanation: User can specify the maximum duration of a lease (applicable only for a dhcp client) by this
command. If the dhcp client is asking for a lease longer than a max_lease, the server will
only issue the lease for the max_lease period. If clients do not mention anything, then the
default_lease will be assigned.
Parameters: name name of the subnet
value duration of lease in secs
Command: >set dhcp subnet next_server
Syntax: set dhcp subnet next_server name server_name
Explanation: Next server in the dhcp client’s boot process which client should contact for a boot file. This
is typically a TFTP server name. If nothing is mentioned here, and the next_server name is
specified in global configuration, it will take that name.
Parameters: name name of subnet
server_name name of server either in string format or IP address
Command: >set dhcp subnet bootfile
Syntax: set dhcp subnet bootfile name filename
Explanation: The boot file is used to store the boot image for the client. The boot image is generally the
operating system that the client loads. If nothing is mentioned here, and it is specified in
the global configuration, it will take that name
Parameters: name name of subnet
filename boot file name in ASCII format
Command: set dhcp domain_name
Syntax: set dhcp domain_name name domain_name
Explanation: Use this command to specify a domain name for a subnet if that name is different from the
global domain name
Parameters: name name of the subnet
domain_name domain name in ASCII format
Command: >set dhcp dns_server
Syntax: set dhcp dns_server name ipaddr1 [ipaddr2] [ipaddr3] [ipaddr4]
Explanation: If this subnet has a different dynamic name system from others, the user should use this
command to specify the DNS IP servers available for a client. One IP address is required,
although user can specify up to four IP addresses.
Parameters: name name of subnet
ipaddr1 dns-1 ip address
ipaddr2 dns-2 ip address
ipaddr3 dns-3 ip address
ipaddr4 dns-4 ip address
